my.vanderbilt.edu being updated July 25-29

Posted by on Monday, July 25, 2016 in Info.

(An email to all my.vanderbilt.edu users was sent out Wednesday, July 20 — with a notification about this update.)

The my.vanderbilt.edu WordPress platform is being updated to the latest version of WordPress (4.5.3) this week, July 25-29.

What does this upgrade mean for you? Once the upgrade is complete, the backend tool/interface that you use to update your website will have a different look (editing pages) — but your public-facing website will not change at all.

alert-icon-red-11In order to facilitate moving this large system, which houses over 1,900 websites, with more than 5,600 users, we are implementing a content freeze and will restrict access to all my.vanderbilt.edu editing functionality.

  • Content freeze began at 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 24.
  • Upgrade will be completed, with access restored by Friday evening, July 29.

This freeze period allows us to upgrade all 1900+ websites and removes the possibility that any changes might be made to content on those sites that would get overwritten as part of the upgrade process.

All website editors need to take note. During the content freeze — you will not have access to WordPress to make changes to your website.

If you have any problems following the update (after access has been restored on July 29):

  • Check our WordPress documentation for an answer to your question
  • Open a help ticket with Web Communications
  • Come see us during our weekly Open Office Hours, held Mondays and Fridays from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Questions?

If you have any questions about the content freeze, or if something urgent occurs DURING the content freeze that would require an update to your website, please contact Web Communications for assistance via the Web Communications Help Desk.
