Web Comm helps welcome Coach Mason
The university announced Derek Mason would be its next head football coach Jan. 17, 2014.
Web Communications worked closely with Athletics, Photography, Video and Creative Services in the days leading up to the announcement to produce a world-class online experience, not just on the website but also in social media.
The Coach Mason site went live at approximately 5:30 p.m on Jan. 17, coinciding with the announcement of his selection, and coordinating with the news breaking on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, as well as the university homepage and of course, the Athletics site.
The site includes links to his bio, videos and photos of the news conference, a feed of Twitter reaction and much more. The site quickly transformed from a static “We have a coaching announcement” page to a dynamic “Welcome Coach Mason” site and has since evolved into a “gearing up for fall 2014.”
Working behind the scenes for big announcements like this one is one of the most exciting parts of working in Web Communications!
