It’s alive! 2011 Commencement site launched
The commencement website has been updated for the Class of 2011. It’s hard to believe preparations are already in full swing for Commencement in May 2011.
This site is built in WordPress – and has the VU Brand Bar at the top… a couple php/mysql functionality bits… small e-commerce section for sales of THE PARTY tickets/Housing at the Commons /Box Lunches. We make use of flickr for posting photos from previous commencements (our photographers also post photos during the events… it’s live photo journalism folks!)
Random Commencement site info:
- Learn more about this year’s Senior Day Speaker, Wangari Maathai (the first woman in East and Central Africa to earn a doctoral degree- awesome!)
- Want to know what to expect? Check out the archives page for loads of videos, photos and links to news articles about previous commencements.
- See Founder’s Medalists back to the 1800’s!
- New this year – photos of the different regalia for bachelors, masters, PhD, other doctorates (5 points for the first person who identifies the model…)
- We’re all about the maps.
- If it rains, and it won’t … find out what the plan is.
- Want to volunteer to help with commencement week activities?
- Everything commencement, one stop shop.
- Let’s see … as of today – only 174 days til the hats are in the air! You can countdown on the homepage whenever you feel like it.
- Be sure to check out this year’s Faculty Seminars. They’re always crowd favorites!
- We know you really just want to know about THE PARTY.
- #VU2011 tweets – aggregates any tweets using the #vu2011 hashtag. Usually this page is pretty slow until the week of Commencement – and then we get students, faculty, staff, and parents all tweeting about their experiences :)
- The list can go on… there’s a ton of information on this site. Anything you could ever want to know about commencement and everything leading up to it — is on there for your viewing pleasure.
As always everyone who is involved with Commencement is amazing to work with. (You haven’t seen organized until you’ve seen Matthew Redd’s color-coded spreadsheets!!) Thanks Matthew, Midori, Bonnie and Mary! And an extra-special shout-out of thanks to Liz Entman in the News Service for her assistance with content updates this year
