Vanderbilt on Twitter
Interested in Twitter, but not sure where to start? Using Twitter, but feeling overwhelmed by the millions of tweets flowing across the site each day? Have no idea what Twitter is, and wondering what the fuss is all about?
A new Web site, http://twitter.vanderbilt.edu, aims to help members of the Vanderbilt community meet each of these needs by gathering all official Vanderbilt tweets into one place.
“This new site is an easy and fun way to get a feel for the daily pulse of Vanderbilt faculty, staff and students using Twitter,” Beth Fortune, vice chancellor for public affairs, said. “It pulls together Twitter feeds from across campus into one convenient, constantly updated place.”
Official Vanderbilt tweets include daily news, athletics scores and updates, information about events, insights on working at Vanderbilt and much more.
Users can subscribe to an RSS feed for the site at http://twitter.vanderbilt.edu/feed.php.
In addition to the comprehensive Vanderbilt Twitter site, the university has also launched http://twitter.vanderbilt.edu/vucommodores/ just for sports fans. The site aggregates all of the official athletics tweets, which include tweets from Vanderbilt athletics teams.
Twitter is an online service where users post 140 character messages ranging from breaking, on-the-scene news, to personal activities, to sports scores and much more. Launched in March 2006, Twitter now has an estimated 75 million registered users.
The new site was created by Web developer Lacy Tite in the University Web Communications office. Tite collaborated with colleagues at North Carolina State University to develop the site.
