  • To add images to our pages we will first need to log in to Omni and then edit our page.

Logging In
To log in, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on the © copyright symbol in the footer.

To edit a page
Once you have logged in you will be taken to the “Edit” mode. Click on the green edit button for the region you want to edit.

  • Click the Insert/Edit Image button Image insert icon
    • [The Insert/Edit Image dialog box will open]
    • Click on the Browse File browser icon button which is to the right of the Image URL field.
    • Another dialog box appears. Navigate to the directory where your image is located, or select Upload to add an image from your computer (see below)
    • Select your image and click insert. [That dialog box will close]
    • Image Description: Enter some text about your image (e.g. photo of Professor John Smith)
    • Title: Enter a title for your image.
    • Click update.
    • [The Insert/Edit image dialog box will automatically close]
  • Save and publish your changes

A note about image hosting
Under the Image URL field, it is possible to enter the web address where a picture is located on an external website. However, it is best practice to upload the images you are using to your website. This ensures that the image hasn’t been removed or altered without your knowledge.

Uploading an Image (without leaving the page you are editing)

  • Click where you want your image to appear
  • Click the Insert/Edit Image button Image insert icon
  • [The Insert/Edit Image dialog box will appear]
    • On the General tab of the dialog box
    • Click on the Browse File browser icon button which is to the right of the Image URL field.
    • [Another dialog box appears.]
    • Click the upload button.
    • From here you can select files by dragging them from your desktop into the window or you can click on the +Add Files button and select your files that way.
    • Once you’ve selected your files, click open
    • Click start upload
    • [the upload dialog box will close]
  • You will be taken back to the Omni file browser dialog box
  • Navigate to where your file was just uploaded.
  • Select it and click insert.
  • [file dialog box will close]
  • With your image selected you will be taken back to the General tab of the Insert/Edit Image popup dialog
    • Image Description: Enter some text about your image.
    • Title: Enter a title for your image.
    • Click update.
    • [The Insert/Edit image dialog box will close]
  • Save and publish your changes

Altering Image Appearance

  • Click the image you have inserted onto the page.
(See directions above if you do not know how to do this.)
  • Click the Insert/Edit Image button Image insert icon
  • [The Insert/Edit Image dialog box will open]
  • Notice that there are 3 tabs at the top of the dialog box: General, Appearance and Advanced.
  • Click on the Appearance tab
    • Alignment: Select right if you want your image to stick to the right side and for text to flow around it. Selecting left does the same thing except your image sticks to the left side of the screen.
    • Dimensions: Lists the dimensions of your image.
    • (Note: Resize large images before you upload to Omni. Do not use this field to scale them down. More on this below.)
    • Vertical Space: Adds space above and below your image.
    • Horizontal Space: Adds space to the left and right side of your image.
    • Border: Adds a border around your picture
  • Click update when you are done making changes.
  • Save and publish your changes

Note About Image Sizes

  • Do not upload extremely large images. They will make your website load slowly and eat up server space.
  • To see how big your image is before you upload it to Omni, right click on it, then go to Get Info (wording may vary by operating system). Generally speaking, your image should be less than 1000px wide. To resize it, use Photoshop or a free resource like pixlr.com. After you’ve made the image smaller, then you can upload it to Omni.

Save and Publish

Once you have added or updated your images you will need to save your changes and publish your page. You must publish your page in order for your changes to show up on your website.

  • Save – Click the save button Save icon
  • Publish
Click the green publish button at the top of the page.
  • In the notification that appears at the bottom of the page, click view in new window to see your published page
