Psychological Sciences moves to Omni

Posted by on Thursday, March 17, 2011 in Launch.

Newly launched websiteThe Psychological Sciences website comprises information about both the Department of Psychology in the College of Arts and Science and the Department of Psychology and Human Development at Peabody College.

When we took on this migration into Omni, the previous site had been built on and expanded over the years until it was nearly bursting at the seams with information.

More than 370 people profiles are now managed through a database interface (profile pages for all faculty, staff, post-docs and graduate students are available).

Two templates exist in Omni that build out the whole people section: the profile page and the listing pages – far more efficient than building (and maintaining!) hundreds of profile pages out individually.

The departmental listing pages are super simple as well — we just filter by the audience variable — and we can easily list, for example, all of the post doctoral fellows. Again – with one template file. I love efficient code.

The old Psychological Sciences site

The events, news and job listing portions of the website are maintained through Sitemason (as they were previously) — but they’ve got a fresh template and social sharing options available for each news item and event.

Tom Palmeri headed up the project for Psychological Sciences with help from Amy Needham and Dan Levin, and the site will be maintained by faculty and staff at both A&S and Peabody. Many of the faculty have had new official photos by taken for the site Photographic Services, which will be added shortly. This was a big project and one we hope will serve the many Psychological Sciences faculty, post-docs, students and staff well!
